The opportunity

IFYS Foster and Kinship Care Sunshine Coast has an exciting opportunity for a Foster and Kinship Care Coordinator to join the team.

By assessing the capacity of Foster and Kinship Carers the Foster and Kinship Care Coordinator ensures that Child Safety standards of care are upheld, and also supports carers to provide appropriate ongoing care that is considerate of individual's evolving needs.

This position will be fixed full-time or part-time as per the successful candidates preference, starting on a 12-month basis with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Support the recruitment, training and screening of Foster Care applicants
  • Complete assessments of foster and kinship carers capacity to meet standards of care, report findings to Child Safety
  • Support carers to provide ongoing care that is emotionally and physically safe, developmentally appropriate, nurturing, appropriately engaging and stimulating to fosters growth and resilience
  • Meet all compliance requirements set by Child Safety for HSQF licensing purposes
  • Provide support to children in regards to placements, targeting specific issues through appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant for their care plan
  • Conduct assessments and developing individual care plans for each child in care in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Conduct home visits for all families, with additional ongoing regular email, phone, and in-person support
  • Support families and children to develop natural links and connections with their family and community
  • Create and develop functional links with community organisations, professional services, alternate care networks
  • Facilitate Carer training (includes out of hours work)
  • Attend community events to recruit carers (includes out of hours work)

Requirements for the role:

  • Professional experience working with children and families in a therapeutic environment
  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or a related field required
  • Exceptional time management and prioritisation skills
  • Understanding of child protection and statutory intervention services
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strengths-based and client-centred practice
  • Well-developed communication skills, including report writing

Must hold or be willing to obtain if successful:

  • Valid Queensland driver's license with no restrictions
  • QLD Working with Children Check (Paid Blue Card)
  • Licensed Care Suitability Check (LCS2)
  • National Crime Check (IFYS will complete a new check through our systems)
