IFYS meets the needs of some of our most vulnerable young people. The Child Protection Residential Program supports young people between 12 - 17 years of age who have been assessed as needing a placement different from family-based care. Our aim is to provide a safe, dependable and nurturing living environment for our young people.

Our Mackay Child Safety Residential Care programs currently have multiple positions available for casual and permanent part-time Residential Youth Workers.

The Residential Youth worker role provides casework services and life skill support to young people. The role is integral in assisting young people in their daily living, recreation, learning and community participation.

This is not a role for the faint-hearted!

The role involves dealing with challenging and complex behaviours so you will need to have a high level of resilience. A down to earth nature and a good sense of humour are also key to this role, in helping you to quickly relate to the young people in care. By utilising your passion and commitment, you will interact therapeutically and positively with the young people and help create a nurturing environment for them to thrive in.

To be successful in this role, you will be a team player; have strong written communication and time management skills and you will have tenacity in spades! It's also essential that you have that fire in your belly that will see you naturally act as an advocate for young people and ensure that services are relevant, flexible and accessible. This role involves a high level of nights and weekend work. Experience as a youth worker is highly desirable.

It is now a requirement of all residential care workers to hold or be studying towards a Certificate IV or higher qualification in a recognised field.
